24 Celebrities You Would Never Guess Are Actually Black
6. Pete Wentz
Pete Wentz is the lead singer for Fall Out Boy and he seems to be as white as they come. But his rocker outer shell conceals the fact that his grandfather was actually black. His grandfather was an ambassador to Sierra Leone and it seems Pete has plenty of his grandfather in him, as he is a supporter of Invisible Children (an organization to help refugees in Uganda).

Not one of these celebrities has the balls to call themselves “white”.
Today they could be 90% white and they’ll run away from it as fast as they can.

I completely don’t understand this comment. Most of these celebs intentionally want to remain racially ambiguous. They aren’t trying to identify as black. Now it’s fashionable to be ambiguous racially so they don’t mind identifying it as long as it doesn’t hurt their careers. This country historically labels people black when they are racially mixed with any African blood. Did anyone really even think Derek Jeter was white?
However, when will Americans get it that most American born blacks are mixed racially. We are just forced to identify with only our African Ancestry. My mother looks whiter than most of the celebrity’s shiown in this article but she can only identify herself as “African American” in this country (Whatever that means.Who the hell started that?Jessie Jackson?). It’s obvious that she is racially mixed. Her father looked white, her grandfather was white.

Offensive. This whole story basically is saying these people are so amazing with great features as if it’s a surprise that black people are beautiful. Who cares what their racial makeup is. People are people.

Everyone has a bit of everything in them I’ve read the articles and it’s saying that there part black or multiracial OF COURSE ITS NOT GOING TO SHOW! Now Jeter is half black and Blake griffin but you can tell look at there features and not skin tone dumb asses skin pigment isn’t the only way to tell black people dumbasses.

Actually, thats wrong too. The word you’re looking for is African.
Black describes exactly what it sounds like. For instance, Obama is Black even though he’s only half African.
Carol Channing is White even though she has a percentage of African blood(recent ancestry of course in all cases here).
Lulu
July 16, 2015 at 2:05 am
not all these celebs look homogeneous and most have very little black in them esp. The white looking ones.In order to Even look homogeneous white they would have to have very little black in them.Derek Jeter you can tell is mixed but he has more white in him.

The average African American has around 28% non black DNA thats the average so some black Americans have more, sone less. so, what makes these half blacks (50%ers) more important or worthy to be talked about than other blacks. this is such a silly article. Go to 23 and Me and have your DNA tested for a hundred bucks and you will see that we are all heavily admixed with everyrhing. time to step out of the 1830s version of race and into the 21st century of DNA. Most of them look black american anyway.

They are BLACK and if they are one of these black actors who are hesitant about letting the world know they are BLACK that’s their stupid ass problem!! I know I am BLACK and so happy to be so!! Wouldn’t have it any other way! They need to take some lessons from HALLE BERRY whose mother is white and father is black and she identifies her self as an AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN!!

October 29, 2015 at 9:42 am
Actually, it’s a religion AND an ethnic group. It has its own genetic markers, and if you get your DNA tested for ancestry, it will show up if it’s there.
Yes, you can convert to Judaism having no Jewish DNA whatsoever. Or you can be of Jewish ancestry and practice a different religion, or no religion at all. But in most cases, Jewish means the religion AND the ancestry.
The diaspora has been mixing for centuries, so you see Jews who look black, or white. But the Jews were originally a brown-skinned people.

Some of the celebs on this list are too mixed to be considered ‘black’. Just because someone has a black person or two in the family going back a hundred years or more does not make them ‘black’. It’s like the person who is 1/32 native American and is entitled to benefits for native Americans because of it. What? If a person is 1/32 native American then that means they are 31/32 something else. They should not be entitled to anything.

This was very ignorant. How does one HAVE to LOOK white or black to be it? You are black AND white if your parents are. All these stereotypes of how one should look or do-it’s racist.. You don’t look white, you don’t look black, you don’t act black or white, YOU CAN ONLY BE IT from your genes. That is stupid to have to pick your race when you are both.& what you identify with is retarded because you’re both and you shouldn’t have to be able to pick one when your both. I remember my mom told me that when she had to put her children as white or black she would put white because in the doctors office they would be looking for a white child and not call us, I think this is retarded because you shouldn’t have to look this “certain” way to be labeled white or black if you are freakin both. 21st-century, you need to get with the freaking program! You shouldn’t have to pick or choose what you are.

Been saying that for a long time. Quit worry about, white, black, brown, orange yellow, or who is green. Last time I checked this country is the USA. That makes us all Americans. If all of us would look at each other as Americans, instead, of Black, White, African American, Italian American, Hispanic American, etc etc, but just as American, how much quicker would racial divisions go away.

Well, most of these people AREN’T black, they are bi- or multiracial. And just calling yourself an American should be good enough for any citizen of this country, no matter what color they are. Especially people as overexposed and overpaid as these….only in America could THAT happen.

You might consider one thing…..if a person is 1/2 black and 1/2 white, their half caucasian and half negro. African-American denotes ethnicity, while negro, like caucasian, denotes race. Get it?. White/black, or negro/caucasian. Either that or call the white “half” European-American, or such. Your welcome;]

July 22, 2016 at 1:34 pm
Wrong. If one parent is black, you are PART black. The other race(s) in their dna doesn’t just suddenly disappear just because you have black ancestry and now all the sudden you’re ONLY black. This type of mentality comes from the one drop rules which is very incorrect. Historically America has incorrectly called mixed people with black African blood black and this is incorrect and unfair to people of mixed ancestry. The people that look like a “light skin blacks” are not black because black skin is not light. They are partially black and mixed with something else which is why they are light/medium skinned. They can say that the are part of black heritage but as far as race they are mixed. The black race is only one color and it’s black skin. If you are light skinned of black ancestry than that means you’re mixed. Mixed also doesn’t just mean having 2 immediate parents of different races. People can be mixed thru over generations of racial mixing. If you’re talking about heritage like the term African American, than it can mean ppl that are of black African ancestry which includes both blacks and mixed people. African Americans incorrectly say they come in many colors but the black race is only 1 color. The other “colors” that they say they come in are all different variations and degrees of mixtures with black and other races. This is not to say mixed people are denying their black heritage by saying they’re not black, they’re saying they’re mixed. People also forget that by not accepting your other heritage is just a bad as denying their black heritage.

This is by far the worst article I have ever read, when you talk about continuing pigmentation divide (there is no racial divide as there is only one human race). This article and the writer perpetuate this by printing an article that is such garbage. It does not matter who their parents were, and it certainly isn’t news, but alas, I fell as victim to starting to read this and give the “click thrus” but I stopped and found the comment section.
Have a great day.

Illiterate ‘African Americans’ and their indoctrinated ilk don’t really understand English, so they brilliantly apply new and ever dumber race labels like ‘Native American’ and ‘African American’ to replace old monikers like negro, black and indian. They can’t seem to agree on some non-white origin tribal language label for themselves and in their failed search for relevance continue to hack the English language up like the barbarous cretins that they are.

Technically, if no one knows, you must have enough euro to actually be Caucasian, with, African ancestors…
Like those of us whom are clearly, Primarily, African, with some 25 out of a hundred ancestors whom were European or other…Black, no question there.
Experience, definitely determines your experience too, mentally, that is, if they can see your African ancestry.
It’s that whole frame of a psychopathic mind, that white is so special, fragile, such an accomplishment, lol, really, next to Godliness, lol, lol,…
Here’s the thing, you’re more Caucasian, if you’re less than 50% African, technically…
But lets over-throw this stupid white bullshit and move gracefully into the future, since African women are not being raped (creepin’)it was known as, back in the day.
There’s beautiful babies being made, from love admiration, respect; everything a beautiful soul needs to escort them into this world, lets celebrate that. No longer do they (biracial) children have to be torn apart by any one side of this terrible equation. These days, they are the best of the best of both worlds.

First off if your father is white and your mother is black you are considered biologically white and vice versa that is why these celebs are considered black because of their fathers. Second not all so called African Americans like to be called that since they do not come from Africa and prefer to be called Black American. I am one of them so come on folks its time to stop labeling everything and everyone. I think one person said “As long as you are a decent person!” Enough said.

Everybody relax. In the end, there are 33 variations in female mitochondrial dna, so in a sense we are all from one of 33 female “strains”. All of these strains link back to a single female who was born in what we now call “Africa” (around 3-4 million? years ago). All of this has little or nothing to do with skin color. So in the end, we all came from Africa depending on how far back in time you wish to go. All of the various modern definitions are ethnic related to what “tribe” or “sub-tribe” of people your most immediate ancestors were born into (last 200-500, even 10,000 years). The White and Black we Americans use is utterly ridiculous – it signifies something the really means nothing, but was used to protect “white”privilege in our Euro-centric society. In the end, all ethnicities are man-made, not God made. French, english, german, spanish, kenyan, nigerian, australian, russian, polish, chinese, japanese etc… are place labels. Ibo, hausa, fulani, zulu, frankish, welsh, scottish, check, slovenian, kurdish, han, etc… are ethnic labels. Many labels are both. Genetically, we are all homo sapiens, HUMAN people on the planet we currently call Earth.

Is this what is responsible for their militancy and the open contempt they express for whites?
I’ve never heard anyone attempt to explain away “whiteness” based upon their position relative to the equator.
Practically always it is only “white” which is associated with “racism” but I fail to see how that relates to ones exposure to the son.

This is a throwback to the “one drop (of blood)” rule and I find it vaguely disturbing to describe a person’s race this way. Someone who has a fraction of black ancestry isn’t “black” any more than nearly all African Americans are actually white. Nearly everyone descended from slaves has some percentage of white ancestry.

I am flabbergasted! I didn’t know Black people looked like this? Only in America! I travelled Africa flat and didnt see any except in South Africa where they have a separate recognized identity, classified as Coloured. The culture is also different to conventional Blacks. The consider it an insult to be identified either way. They clearly see Obama as one of them.

Don’t allow ignorance to overcome you, mixed is what it is! Blacks don’t have a monopoly on who people identify with that are mixed with Black! This is a loser mentality, get over it, not everybody remotely mixed with Black wants to identify with Black! Shame Halle Berry is under a massive spot light, she will say that to avoid an onslaught, but end up with mixed or White guys.

I may be wrong but this whole thing sounds wrong. For instance white isn’t a race it’s a color, and black isn’t a race it’s a color. So where you were born dictates your nationality, and DNA dictates your ethnicity. why is there so much confusion?

People come up with all sorts of crazy ideas, then assume they represent everyone’s view in a group. Genome tests claim every person is a little black (supposedly), but this is an unrealistic example. What is a “Pure Bred Golden Retriever”? They look back 5 generations, to breed they should all be healthy golden retrievers. So, if everyone in your family tree is white going back 5 generations; you are as white as can be imagined and you should ignore genome testing. It would be nice if people only bred if all 5 generations going back were healthy, but people breed without thinking of the child’s benefit.

To be honest, the worse type of racism is to disregard what a person is. If you can’t accept all of them, then you really don’t regard part of them as human or even worth acknowledging.

I guess that brings up two points, one old and one new. Is it only dark skined people who can be african? Question is just how far does africa extend? IS it just sub-sahara, or does it stop at egypt? So then it’s the red sea that determines genes. Seems that politically there is more comfort calling Jor, Irq, Kuw, Leb etc., Asian, rather than African(Somalia sits further east than half the arabian peninsula, is that the mid-east?). I believe that the H.R.E. was where Israel and it’s surroundings became non-African, and this has been reinforced by the RC church ever since….

This is about as racist as it gets. So just because someone has an African/Haitian/Blackrelatove they’re black? Why do these people have to be labeled as ANYTHING other than people? Secondly, Blake Griffin & Kris Humphreys are only good at basketball because of black relatives?? Who the fuck wrote this? Dirk Nowitski must be good because of his black wife, Steve Nash probably had a black neighbor in Canada, Jason Williams was good because he’s “white chocolate”? This is a joke.

@Ben
“So, if everyone in your family tree is white going back 5 generations; you are as white as can be imagined and you should ignore genome testing.”
Don’t forget, Ben, that the significance of DNA is that it is active and dynamic, changing constantly in adaptive response to environmental conditions, diet, etc. So, the presence of African genes in white people means that according to climate conditions, the recessive genes can switch places with the dominant genes. Therefore, for example, if ten generations of a white family have lived freely exposed in a subtropical climate near the equator, the feature set (including facial and body attributes), of the oldest generation and the newest generation would differ dramatically, provided that the oldest generation came from a family of whites living in colder climates such as the UK or central or upper Canada. The noses, lips, vision, ears, pelvic bones, skin color, mean body temperature, among other things would have changed making the newest generation of the white family appear “mixed”, though no “Black blood” be introduced.

Mother eve oldest fossil discoverd on Pangaea. Its called current science fool definately first man descendants wasn’t from away from the equator. Man evolve white due to lack for need of pigment during mutations. in early man skin. uv ray protection was neccessary. black people are typically less hairy than their white counter parts suggesting that from the transisiton from ape to homosapien early.man needed hair to warm the body in regions far from the equator.

Why do those who complain the most about racism contribute to it so much by making race an additive or subtractive factor in ANYthing? So many generations in, probably a majority of the people on the planet have at least SOME black in them. One only has to look at 23andMe reports.

I know, right? Since being black makes you a great basketball player, the lighter you are the worse you should be as it follows. BUT, recently there are a LOT of lite brite players all over the place, especially at the Arizona schools, since are more appetizing to white people. They generally have a white gold digger mom and a black pro basketball poppa, and they are in a lot of western schools especially. BUT, I was thinking, how can they be very good if they have a bunch of Caucasian blood? maybe the dad’s genes and training help, as well as the rich upbringing.

He He! When somebody is doing well and smart, we fight over just what he/she is, claiming ownership, right? Say, OBAMA for example. He was raised by his white family and is half white, but blacks say HE’S BLACK! Heaven forbid, but if he does something wrong or is exposed for bad acts, then they will say, he is WHITE or at least, half white, no wonder. lol!

No Name Needed, your comment is not entirely correct and is misleading. Puerto Ricans are a mixture of many peoples. They are a mixture of the native Taino Indians, the Spanish, Portugese, French conquerors, and the African slaves that were brought to the island. The friendly and welcoming natives mixed with these new people until they’ve become a conglomeration of many people with the Spanish being the most prominent influence and the African being the second most prominent. They are considered and known as Latinos and not Africans and come in many shades and sizes, from the tall, slender, blonde, blue eyed to the short, round, dark hair, eyes, and skin and everything in between. Their main languages are 1) Spanish and 2) English.

The title is completely misleading. Most of these people aren’t even half black. It’s stupid, oh and not act black what does that mean if your a normal somewhat boring etc your not acting black. I am appalled by the stereotyped statements in the paragraphs about each picture. It appears that the story, rather than a celebration of the good looks and acting skills that might be attributed to the mixing of races, has a tone of “Look Who’s Passing For White! I find this article disgusting and I strongly regret falling for this click-bait!

I have a white skin, Grey/Blue eyes and straight blond hair, I also have the facial features of a white person (a straight and thin nose, thin lips…). I have 2 brothers, one of them has green eyes and straight clear brown hair and the other has light brown eyes and straight blond hair. My sister has straight blond hair and hazel eyes. They also have a white skin. Nobody would believe me if I said I had black ancestry. My parents are also white (father : green eyes, white skin and brown hair, mother : blue eyes, white skin and blond hair).
We always have considered ourselves white people in my family, but we discovered that my grand-father was what we call an octoroon (my grandfather’s great grand father is black), he is 1/8 black and he completely looks white. So that means my great great great grand father was a black man, that makes my grand-father 1/8, my father a 1/16 and that makes me 1/32 black (3,12% black ancestry). The One drop rule says I’m a black man even if I look super white. And you know what ? I don’t even care, I’m proud of having black ancestors. And I would be proud of being a black man. What’s wrong with being black ? You know what my great great great grandfather lived ? He was a slave…That courageous black man has more balls then white people. I have just told my friends and all my school that I have black ancestors, they call me the black guy. I even hang out with black guys right now, they are really cool. White guys suck.

As a Louisiana Creole I resent all of this and these people being called black, black in America means being of African decent, a negro African, not an Arab or Moorish African of North Africa or a White African from the southern African nations or of the many mixed race Africans scattered across the whole of Africa in great numbers.
I’m, my family is from the New Orleans, Louisiana area we are part negro, part Spanish from southern Spain (Moorish), about 3 different distinct different Native American Indian and German/French and Irish our European side. I’m not a black man my first wife was half New Orleans black and half French, she had beautiful green eyes. Our daughter is all of her and mine with light brown hair, same green eyes of her mom’s mine are hazel and I look like a light brown skinned Latino with tight wavy black hair or did most of it is gone now.
My mother grandmother was half negro with French Spanish my grandpa was the German,
Irish my father’s mom was part white and mix Creole of uncertain origin. My father was black, And mixed Indian and Canadian French the grandfather was a French Canadian Indian fur trapper who lived in the great swamp of Louisiana who only spoke French. He died when my father was a young boy who was given to Catholic nuns who raised him and other French swamp kids on their Catholic farm for their free labor. My father joined the U.S. Navy and served in WW II.
Anyway they were always considered Creole or sometimes mixed Cajun but never black.
Later several cousins and one of my half sisters married mostly black man and cousins married black women and men even the most of these ” blacks” were also mixed race.
Just because a person has a “black” person in their bloodline doesn’t make them black or of the negro race.
All this worrying about being black or white instead of be just a mixed race person is stupid and for many mentally unhealthy.
Brazil has this a figured out, the are just Brazilian.
So I’m just American, you all can just stuff your labeling.

I don’t understand why you are calling these people black, when they are half white….shouldn’t someone come up with a new name for mixed races? Show me a black person who looks white…won’t happen. There’s white somewhere in the woodpile. My Grandkids are red, white and black…what the heck would you call that? Besides AMERICAN.

uh well my friend did you say coloured take offense to being called one of the ofther 2? because I’m not mistaken i’ve been to plenty of places in africa and coloured people there don’t like being called that but they deal with it. hell a coloured from south africa said he was happy to come to america because he wouldn’t be considered colored but black instead since in america coloured actually refers to black people. from my experience the wanted to be black labelled over the label coloured but aye I didn’t speak to everyone coloured person there lol.
